Fuel light blinks randomly while driving - has 1/2 tank of gas

I have a 2000 JXi Limited convertible and noticed recently that the fuel light flashes
randomly while driving even though there is fuel in the tank. Just passed emissions so
there shouldn't be an issue with the cap.  Wondering if this could be an indicator of some
other issue?
