Why is my wife's car overheating?

Asked by MegaDave Dec 28, 2017 at 05:47 PM about the 2002 Chrysler 300M Special FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My wife's car just had
a new water pump,
radiator, condenser,
and dex coolant. Not
to mention I changed
the thermostat and
fan relays. However,
it's still overheating.
The fans aren't
working and there's
no pressure in the top
radiator hose. Could
the thermostat have
gone out again? Can
someone please help
me troubleshoot this
prob?

Find out why fans are not working. They must be working to keep your vehicle at proper temp.

Also did you properly bleed all the air out of the cooling system after doing all this work? If not that could be your issue.

I agree with above answer to bleed air from system remove cap from overflow tank fill with antifreeze to full mark leave cap off and start vehicle and let idle once vehicle starts to reach operating temp thermostat will start to open and fill level in tank will drop once this happens add more antifreeze to full mark then put cap back on. That’s it also you will notice the level in tank will start to rise in tank until thermostat starts to open this is normal.

You stated your cooling system doesn't hold pressure . All cooling systems should hold 15 to 16 LBS pressure . Pressure test the cooling system , test or replace the radiator cap but the first thing to do is to get the fans working

I think it's your ECM Module? It's the brain of your car. I believe mine is gone too? They cost about $200 to have them reconditioned, and about $50 to install. Worth checking.
