Issues getting my outback to start/idle right.

How longs it been since uve taken sum carb cleaner and scrubbed out ur throttle body with a brush

Try a tuneup, filter change and a fuel system cleaner in addition to the first suggestion.

The newbie's right...except for spelling. Remove the intake hose and plenum from the throttle body and thoroughly clean the venturi. Hold the butterfly horizontal (wear rubber gloves!) as you squirt fluid on the top and bottom sealing surfaces while scrubbing with a small brush or strong paper towel. The car will then restart roughly and dirtily as it's choking on the cleaner (sorry, Mother Nature), but should smooth out to a nice idle, assuming your plugs, wires and coilpack are happy. If this doesn't work there's a small one-wire spark plug-looking-like sensor that bolts into the intake manifold right below where you were squirting fluid. It's a cold start sensor that tells the ECM to enrich the fuel/air for cold starts. Under $20, and easily replaced. Maybe not a bad idea to buy one and replace while you're back there with the cleaning operation so you don't have to repeat removal of the plasticware back there. Best, Ern TSG/B
