Control on the temp for heat & a/c fights me. What's causing this?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Control on the temp for heat & a/c fights me. Turn the knob, and the degrees just roll around the same area. E.g.: this morning wanted the heat on at anything 80 degrees or up, and it just toggled around in the 60's.  Turning the knob repeatedly, without much success. Even after the car warmed up a bit, still did it.

The knob on the right adjusts the heat/air control for the passenger side. Thank you by the way for your answer, and if you would know, would it still be the same solution? I have buttons below (not dials) that direct
