can i get a new key fob from somewhere thats not going to cost me a fortune?

I have 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible JXi and the 1 key I have doesn't have the fob. The key will lock/unlock the doors, open trunk, etc. It used to have a key fob as it's the JXi version and it has an alarm system too. I just need another keyfob to be able to do things remotely; "panic", trunk, lock/unlock doors. If dealership is only way, could you describe why or if there is ANY other options? Thanks a lot!!

Nobody else has the equipment to do this. Why? I don't know.

Patrick: are you 100% that this procedure works with the convertible as well? According to "everyone", the convertible is "dealer program only". (???)

Nope, doesn't work. You need a scanner that will get to the BCM and program it, an RKE Programmer. AND since Dodge only used this type of Remote Key for a small amount of years, this Programmer is almost obsolete. Most emulators can do the programming, but are still WAY out of most people's price range. I did hear about a guy on a Jeep forum that is trying to reverse engineer one of those emulators, but don't know how far he has gotten.
