Car leaking water on passenger side under dash

Asked by Nick Sep 14, 2019 at 02:58 PM about the 2009 Buick Lucerne CXL Special Edition FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 2009 Buick Lucerne from a local dealer. I
bought the car on Monday September 9th. I drove the car
around all day on monday (had some errands to run, but
didn't drive that many miles) and the AC worked amazingly-
it was a hot day. We got home sometime that afternoon,
and decided to take the car for a night drive later on so we
could see how the gauges looked when lit up (lame, I know
but we were excited lol). So after the sun went down l, we
got in the car, started her up, and the AC fans were blowing
just as powerfully as they had earlier that day. But...only
warm air was coming out. I thought maybe I didn't have the
AC turned on. So I hit the button on and off a few times to
see if we got any cool air. Nope. The AC was not working.
The passenger side floorboard was also wet. So the next
morning we took it to the dealer, and told them what was
happening. (I know this is getting long, please bare with
me).

The guy who sold us the vehicle said that they knew about
the problem it was having, but he thought they had already
fixed it. He said that the AC clutch fuse kept blowing,
everytime they replaced it it blew. But they thought they
fixed the problem before selling it to us. Because they are
good people, they took it to have it fixed. After a couple of
days, they told us it had been fixed, they said that the
compressor they put in the first time was overloading the
fuse with amps...it had twice the amperage it should have.
So they replaced the compressor (at no cost to us because
again, they are good people). They checked EVERYTHING
else: the condenser, the drainage lines, the fuses, the heater
core...they said they checked it all and that was the only
problem they could find.

Now, the AC is still working! My issue is....the leak is still
happening on the passenger side. It seems like it happens
mainly when it's really hot. I've had this leak happen in my
last vehicle, and the heater core was broken and the AC
compressor clutch wasn't working. I asked them to check
the AC drainage line because I know that could potentially
cause the leak, they said the flushed it. They checked
everything apparently. So if it's none of those problems, and
the AC is still working, what could be causing this leak? It's
really frustrating. Apologies for the length of this post, there
were a lot of little details I didn't want to leave out. I'm
going to tell them it is still leaking, but if it's something silly
I'd rather not have to bother them about it.

The ac drainage line could be not in the right place causing it to drain in your car

I have an 09 Lucerne I'm having the same problem just removed all the carpets out of the car and did a water test by hosing the roof of the car. water seems to be coming from either the windshield gasket or possibly the wiper gasket , if there is one.. water is leaking from underneath the dash and draining through the vents underneath the carpet.Taking it to get the windshield resealed.
