Where is my ignition switch located on my 08 Ford Sport Trac?

Asked by Phil Aug 08, 2017 at 01:50 AM about the 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac Adrenalin V8

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Could the ignition switch be the cause of an intermittent dead short that
actually boils off the water in my battery and ruins it?
A mechanic buddy suggested replacing the ignition switch so I purchased
one today!  If you agree, can you pls tell me it's location?
Also, before this started, my key would hesitate before returning to RUN
position once in a while but I'm not sure if this is telling me something.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have to repair it before I destroy
another battery's!
Thanks so much for your response!
Phil

Thanks but not quite! That's called the key cylinders! The Cylinder drives the switch which can be under the airbag or down inside the column under the dash plates. I do appreciate your quick response and trying to help, but I'll save this for the people who know!

The mechanical part of the ignition switch, the part that all of the wires connect to and distributes the battery power to the different electrical systems is located behind the dash mounted on the steering column. You will need to take the plastic dash coverings of and remove some metal shields but is easy enough to find and replace.
