Have the vehicle scanned for codes. More than likely it has to do with the Throttle Positioning sensor on the side of the throttle body, ether the TPS is bad, or there is a broke wire in the harness running up to it. Common problem. To check for a broken wire, it would be internal to the insulation so continuity of each wire would need to be checked.
