Some cars have a separate water housing compartment unlike standard conventional vehicles where the thermostat is in the intake manifold right in front of you under the water neck connected the the radiator hose. I have noticed these newer cars put the water pump and thermostat on the side of tube engine block to eliminate added parts in the way but a pain in the ass to work on while the engine is in the car!
