What kind of tires would be most beneficial for gas mileage and tire wear?

I bought a 2012 Elantra in Dec 2014. I absolutely hate this car! What a joke, low profile tires handles like crap and tires wore down to belts within 25k miles. Also if I should have experience a blow out, the stupid can of Fix a Flat would be of NO USE. I cannot believe Hyundai put such crap out on the road! Yes I called Customer care and dealership. I drive 600+ miles a week and I had 2008 elantra with 15" tires that still handles better, better suspension and better gas mileage that this new piece of crap. I plan on returning this S*** box back to the dealer

It is all about the brand of tires, the alignment and the air pressure you are running. Usually low profile tires handle better, but ride harsher and they don't last as long as higher profiles do. If you got 25,000 miles on the original tires you did pretty well. Perhaps consider a set of Michelin tires?

Hmm, you're not alone. Michelin or Continental would be definitely a better choice. Also, check out deals at Costco. See this link- they're talking about tire problems about another Hyundai model, http://forums.edmunds.com/discussion/14193/hyundai/sonata/2011- hyundai-sonata-tire-problems

we have a 2009 elantra,bought used 6 month old.came with the factory tires and 16,000 miles on it.we would slide when braking on a wet road.driving in snow and ice was really bad.bought new tires $450 and it drives much better,got about 50,000 miles out of them.
