why does key get hot

my key is starting to be hot after removed from the ignition

You likely have a bad electrical contact in the ignition switch, which is attached to the lock cylinder. An ignition switch can be replaced without affecting the car's anti theft system. Check Google or Youtube for DIY how to's.
