Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What causes this?  It tries to shift up, but goes into neutral & then back to 1st gear.  Can it be fixed?

You would probably want to take it to the shop to get that looked at. They should be able to tell you whether the problem can be fixed or not before charging you anything.

It sounds like it is in limp mode. It will only go in 2nd gear. Hobble it to a shop, it's probably the valve body that's failed in the transmission. Pretty common on the 1st Gen LH Sedans. http://www.lhforums.net is a great place for info on these cars! Tell em 98Corde sent ya!
