XL7 liftgate won't open after battery changed

Asked by GuruGF5L May 28, 2017 at 01:33 PM about the 2008 Suzuki XL-7 Base AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Help! Car started fine one morning except I noticed the radio and clock were
not working - shrugged it off and went to an appointment. 2 hours later it
wouldn't start - acted completely dead so asked for a jump from a co-worker.
As soon as he connected the cables my wipers came on (I must have hit the
lever in my frustration), tried the key and it started right up. I figured the battery
was bad so I headed straight to a shop to get it replaced - they confirmed, of
course, that I needed a new one. Now to my real problem - I have not been able
to open the liftgate since that day. I had zero problems with the touch pad prior
to getting the new battery. All fuses are good and there are no other electrical
issues.

Anyone have something similar? Why would the battery act like it was dead but
realky wasn't? And could we have fried the electrical on just that latch?

The mechanic where the battery was installed refuses to believe that I didn't
have problems before and says I must have a broken wire because no power is
getting to the touchpad. But wouldn't that cause a fuse to go out? It cost me
$100 for that opinion so I thought I would do some research on my own.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Awesome - thank you! That gives me somewhere to start Tuesday morning when I go back in there to talk to them.
