High rev low MPH

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
2004 Escape 195,000 mi. Driving home could not
get over 40 MPH engine was sounded like it was
struggling. Even if RPM was 3000 still no go.
Backed down to 2000. Engine didn't sound like it
struggled as much. Shifted gears but that didn't
help. Oh, it's an automatic.

Had a problem with my emissions breather line being disconnected. Reconnected the line but still have problem. How do I check if it's a plugged exhaust? Is it something I can do. I'm moderately mechanically inclined. Have most tools.
Forgot to say there is no check engine light. Will I be able to get an engine code?

Possible broken tooth on drive axle. This will affect abs as well as limp mode thus not going over 40mph
