Tiguan motor swap

Asked by Guru7PVF May 20, 2017 at 05:13 PM about the 2010 Volkswagen Tiguan SE with Leather

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My boyfriend bought a 2010 VW Tiguan to
fix up, and it needs a new motor, so he's
looking into buy another motor to swap,
but a 2015 motor with the same codes on
it, but the site he's using says that the
motor is for Tiguan between 2012-2017.
What's the difference if the codes are
exactly the same

I doubt the 2010 ECU will work with the 2015 motor. Trying to swap years of engines will give you nothing but headache$$.

The codes are very important. Going by the 5th digit or letter, tells about added features when the cars computer is produced and operated functions. If the digits match within the years of unchanged designs it should work. Not a bad idea to call volkswagon and ask them. Not dealership, Volkswagen USA
