Is there such a thing as a fuel intake pump on a 2012 Chevy Malibu ?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

A friend's car is really aggrevating to fill with gas.  You can barely squeeze the pump handle and trickle gas in and you can only get it about 3/4 full.  She has the car at a dealership and they told her the fuel intake pump is plugged and needs to be replaced.  I have done a bit of quick research and I cannot find a fuel intake pump on a parts schematic.

they may be referring to the furl fill tube which has a screen at the bottom to block contaminants from getting into your fuel tank and blocking you fuel pick up screen, fuel filters or injectors.

Is there an anti-siphon flap ? Is it possible that could be it too ? Is it possible to remove that flap and not have to replace it ?

What they are calling the fuel intake pump switch is the EVAP VENT SILONOID. It is located behind the rear wheel on the left side near the filler neck I know this because my wife has 2010 impala and I recently had to change it I got the part from advanced auto it was $90 and it only takes about 15 minutes to change out

It is a common problem with gm cars because of where the smart people at Chevrolet decided to put the damn thing

Thanks. I will pass the info along. I don't like to see anyone pay for parts/repairs that aren't necessary; especially if they are spendy. And I agree wholeheartedly with questioning the "smarts" of auto engineers and designers: they should all have to intern as mechanics and work on what they desgin. Without all the fancy, once part specific tools and equipment.
