The roof panel and one cross beam on my mother's 2012 Chevy Malibu was replaced 6 monts ago due to a collision with an incompletely opened garage door. The repair looked perfect. Now, two dents have appeared in the roof panel right where the cross beam was replaced. Is it possible that the original repair and welding was botched somehow?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The paint in the dented areas is unmarked. I'm thinking that the normal flexing and bending of a unibody may have caused this if the original repair was not done right, or possibly a broken weld. Its a heck of a coincidence that these unexplained dents showed up right where the replaced crossbeam is.

Was the repair paid for by your insurance? Have an adjuster look at it, they can determine if it was poorly repaired and have another shop look at it. If you paid for it yourself, you'll just have to fight the garage that did the work to make it right.
