2012 impala lt knocking noise when accelerating

Is the check engine light on? I'd suspect a bad knock sensor. The knock sensor is like a microphone that listens for denotation from the engine. When denotation is heard a signal is sent to the computer to retard the ignition timing to stop the denotation or knocking. If the knock sensor is not working the check engine light should be on and a trouble code will be stored in the computer. You can visit your local auto parts store and have them scan the computer. Most stores will do the scan for free. Hope that helps! Jim
