Stabilitrak, traction control issues
Asked by Kiva Jun 28, 2016 at 12:07 AM about the 2012 Chevrolet Impala LT FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2012 Chevy Impala with about 130,000
miles on it. About a week ago whenever I make a
left turn the traction control light and abs light
would come on and then go back off. Now when I
make the left hand turn it tells me to service
stabilitrak, service traction control and service
brake assist. I changed my brakes this morning
still no luck. Can somebody help me please
because I don't have all this money to be spending
out!

I think it is an indication of a bad wheel bearing assembly, (hub assy.) if you get the car scanned for codes it would tell you where the problem is. It is possible there is a bad wire at the wheel sensor like tennisshoes says.
I also have a 2012 Impala and have the same issue. I thought it was related to my battery which died and needed to be replaced, but the lights come back. I hear a noise and have hesitation when I turn the wheel to the left.

Same issue one my 2013 Impala never replace the wheel hubs the bearings and still the same problem it's kind of hesitant and it sounds almost like a grinding noise and then the traction control symbol comes on the dashboard and it says service stabilitrak any suggestions?
Sounds like you have a bad wheel bearing and if it is grinding then it is getting hot, so it fried the wheel sensor. Replacing the wheel bearing hub assembly has the new wheel speed sensor on it.
Same issue with my 2010 impala , bought used from a place that had 08-12 models . Every single one I test drove did the same hesitating vibration then shoots off , as well as the service stabilitrak abs on the dash on left turns only . Also noticing a grinding noise like a low power steering pump whine when turning the wheel left even slightly on straight roads and any speed . On occasions I also get a loud front end noise sounds almost like i hit something then the abs light would come on
same issue, and noise from left front wheel
Check your wheel bearings. If the ABS light is on getting the codes read saves a lot of time, the codes tell you what could be wrong, and which wheel to look at. Checking for a bad wheel bearing is a manual process, seeing if there is any play in the wheel at the bearing.
Always left front wheel. When stabilitrak warning light is on, gear indicator does not show which gear I am in and car will not accelerate. I HAVE had the car serviced. NO codes show up. Brakes and bearings are good. And this problem seems to be pervasive.....so many posts about it. One poster noted that it started after the ignition recall work was done and, though it may be coincidental, mine started after that, too, though this might just indicate a mileage correlation.
2011 Chevrolet Impala LTZ - Just had new inner and outer tire rods replaced, new brakes and an alignment. Still get ABS, service StabiliTrack, and service brake traction control indicator lights. Car is driving fine though. Where/How do I get the sensor codes checked.
You can get this done at an auto parts store. Make sure and ask if their scanner is capable of reading ABS codes. You want the ABS codes since that will tell you where the problem is and what to look for. Write down the codes.
Hey everyone I had the same problem with my 2013 Chevy impala what I did was just turn the traction button off and had no problem the only thing is that you have to control your car manual which mean if he rain or snow you have to really be able to control the wheel
CADILLAC32 answered 7 years ago
(Cadillac 32). I have a 2012 Impala have changed all 4 hub bearing assemblies twice still have the same grinding sound Turn off Trac control light it come back on. Next going to change the back struts to see if that stop the grind in town
I have a 2014 Chevy impala when making left turn or reversing it makes grinding noise makes the car come to a stop. Also turned off traction control now it comes back on itself and it literally stops car. Please help don't have money to take to dealer
Same issue here guru .. it seems to be intermittent as well..
My Impala does the same thing. Grinding with left turns, unless I remember to turn the traction control off. Is there a way to make the traction control stay off? Sometimes I get the service ABS/stabilitrack too.
I have a 2013 Chevy Impala with the same problems, 'service ABS/Stabilitrack, grinding noise, decreased power and car will nearly stop on you from time to time, particularly when turning. Taken to dealership, more than one, they GET NO CODES on diagnostic. It can't be fixed, except to turn off stabilitrack button and keep turning it off. Really needs to be a recall.
Also have a 2013 Chevy Impala with the same issues. My daughter is a manager at auto zone so knows several mechanics, one of them had my car up on a rack all day and checked everything that he could get his hands on and my car is in great condition. No codes come up.
my 2013 ltz impala does everything that i have been reading here. i replaced both front hub assemblies, all the pads and had the rotors turned. still, all the issues as before. it was so bad at one point, i could not get the system reset when all the warnings came on and the computer had control of the car. there has to be a way to totally disable the computer and leave the driving to us!
2014 Impala, started car and the car vibrated like it was idling very rough, once I put it in gear and moved the vibration quit. I turned off the car, restarted it and was ok but then the Stabilitrak Service needed message came on. Come on Chevy - do a recall!

Got the lights to come on with a scanner plugged in while driving...it produced these 3 codes.
Goodness at all of the time and money you people are spending on the wrong thing. Your ABS wiring harness has a short in it. When you turn the wheel you have a wire separating and it causes the warning light and the noise that you hear. You need to replace the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring harness. 40 dollars. This is such a known problem at Chevrolet that they keep both sides in stock.
I have the 2010, Impala with ABS and service stabilitrak lights on. After replacing the right Hub and Bearing assembly the same lights were illuminated and the code checker still pointed towards intermittent or no signal from the right front sensor. After tracing the wiring harness down to the point where the smaller plastic protector joins to the larger plastic protector (just beneath the alternator), there is a small gap (about 1 inch) between the large and smaller plastic protectors. In the gap the wires were unprotected except for some black tape wound around the area. I noticed the tape was worn and I removed the tape to expose the wires. One of the two wires (lighter colored one) in this instance had been rubbing up against the frame and wore through the insulation and only one small strand of wire was still intact. I cut and spliced the wire back together and all lights extinguished.
I have a 2012 Impala with 69,000 miles on it that had the same problem. Took it to Chevy dealer and they replaced the "wiring harness connection to LF wheel speed sensor". It took care of the problem. They said it did not show any codes on their scanner when tested before replacement. It was still under my extended warranty so I only paid the deductible. Otherwise the cost would have been $353.15 This was at a dealership in Omaha. Hope this helps someone.

Same with my 2012, Impala. Took to dealer and they said it is the abs harness!!! Now, on to customer servicecat General Motors!!!!
It happened all the time on my 2013 impala they told me it was a bad wheel bearing but when my brother in law and I checked it no noise and no play so I noticed my tires were at 4/32 but almost too the wear bar so I replaced my cheap tires with a set of xenen 70,000 mile tires and have not had an issue since.
My stabilitrak light keep coming on but the ABS light is not on I have an 2009 impala ss
I AM GOING THROUGH THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY CAR
I found the problem on my 2014 impala limited LTZ. Its was the abs wire that connects to the wheel bearing. Look for a part that's separated. When turning sharp in these models it pulls on this wire cause them to wear and lose connection.
19.99 on amazon. or cut and butt splice. Quit wasting your money on bearings, and Chevy dealerships.
Joe is correct, my 2014 limited did the same thing, it was a break in the wire from hub sensor to computer about 3 inches from the sensor connector. You can buy the piece of the wire harness on rock auto and splice it in, that was easiest. Where the harness armored cable is connected to the suspension closet to the sensor connector, I used a heavy duty zip tie with some slack in it to prevent the cable from pinching when wheel is turned all the way either direction
Ok I have a 11 impala LTZ device traction control/stabilitrak/brake system lights are now on - problem is my brakes have to be pushed to the floor there is no resistance in the pedal at all - brakes/rotors are only a few months old - could this be the sensor or wiring as well?? Help please single mom on a budget that doesn’t have money to keep paying for diagnostic
In my case the ABS light and the TCS off lights come on simultaneously for a few seconds, while the DIC says TCS off, then the DIC says TCS on and the two lights go out. The next time I turn tight it repeats the same pattern. I will admit I get the DIC error message Service Stabilitrak message maybe once every couple of days, but it is only there a few seconds and is gone again for another two or three days when it appears for a few seconds again. I have a 2012 Chevy Impala LTZ (SVS) with approx. 135,000 kms. When I try turning off the TCS the DIC indicates I am in Performance Mode and the TCS off is lit on the dash.
I got the exact problem with mine. I'm taking it to get tested when I can because it's annoying when I take off half the time the car is beeping at me and most of the time left turns set it off
Also I read about wire harnesses on this discussion and that's hit or miss. I've replaced 2 and it didn't help with my problems
GolfGirlMD59 answered 7 years ago
I have had this issue for years now. It usually rears it's ugly head in the cold seasons. I was not sure what was causing the grind until today. The trac light came on. Thanks everyone who shared their experience with this issue. It has really helped me.
Doesn't bother me to keep turning the traction off, the mystery question is....will this problem cause my car not to pass inspection. I'd like to think not cause if it was important, there'd be no option to turn it off.
it the wire harness that plugs into the wheel bearing it needs replaced two dealers could not find the promblen one did and my son google it they where right
My stabilitrak service keeps coming on car acts like it wants to stop smell burning smell traction symbol keeps coming on can someone please tell me if they are having or had the same problem if so what was the problem my car is a 2015 Chevy impala LT
I am having the same problem with my 2013 LTZ. Both the Service Stabilitrack light and the ABS light come on and you can hear a grinding noise coming from the front left somewhere. At first it only did it when I turn left, and at that usually only when I first took off from a stop. I have replaced both front wheel bearing, both CV axels and all 4 new rotors and sets of brake pads. It is still making the same grinding noise and now the warning lights come on when I turn right as well. I inspected the wiring harness on both sides and did not see any damage to either of them
I think everyone should file a complaint and maybe GM will get off there behinds. I filed one with safercar.gov
My problem was the ABS sensor so I had to replace the wheel hub bearing assembly because the sensor is built into it, problem is fixed (driver side front)
Going to change out the hub idk if I should do it myself I hear it's pretty simple
I had the same exact problem with the grinding. After 4 trips in to the Chevy dealership where we purchased our 2014 from (we were the 2nd owner and the 1st purchased it there) they finally figured out it was the wheel bearing. Few months later another went out...and a few months later another went out. I now have another error message today and am ready to trade in this hunk of junk!
My 2013 impala had the stabiltrack sensor replaced when I bought it from the dealership. I have not anymore problems out it on that, but I did have a right front wheel bearing\hub replaced last spring. Mine is doing fine, a tune up at almost 96,000 is next, maintenance keeps all cars going. I love my chevrolet.
I have a 2014 Impala with the same issue. I did replace both hubs (even though my 2014 model year uses the 2013 model year style hubs!). This did NOT fix the problems. It has something to do with the computer and how it's reading the sensors. And that is not a cheap fix!
2013 Impala with same issues, replaced break pads, calipers, and rotors and still would have the traction control light come on. Took to auto parts store and came up with a code C0035, left front wheel speed sensor circuit erratic. Going to try and replace wheel speed sensor and see if that fixes my problems
I was told either the ABS sensor come unplugged, or need the buy the hub assembly opposite of what turns makes the alarm ding more. Yes, the lights and flashing words will stay on, but mine does it on a hard right, therefore, we are checking the connection first, then ordering the hub assembly and doing it ourselves.
About 9 out of 10 times, the wire harness will have an issue. However, the hub assembley , parking brake switch, brake fluid level switch can all be culprits. Traction control module can be at fault but unlikely.
same problem with my 2015 impala 80000 miles. Service stabilitrac light comes on, computer tries to shut down car. Turn off car, computer resets itself but check engine light stays on. Went to O'Reiley"s , they couldn't bring up any codes but check engine ligjt went off
My Father owns a 2012 Chevy Impala LTZ and I noticed that everything's fine and nothing goes off for maybe an hour and a half or less but the only thing that makes it go off is taking left turns and while there's pot holes in the road while your turning when that happens it says service "Stabilitrac" and "Traction Control" goes off. The thing that sucks about the "Stabilitrac" going off is that you really just better hope you don't get stuck in bad Morning from 8 AM to 11AM and After work 2:30 PM to latest 7:30 PM if your stopped for long enough and the "Stabilitrac" is going off while your stopped the car shuts it's self off and doesn't start back up again until you service the "Stabilitrac" happened once when me and my Father were cruising around going on a road trip if you don't want your car to shut it's self off while your stopped for too long either- 1. Put the car in "Park" and rev the engine but don't rev the engine too hard. Just lightly rev the engine so that the car thinks your driving still. 2.If your stopped in traffic on a freeway/ (Warning: Only do this on the freeway if none of the cars are moving/ Only do this on the freeway if not a single car is absolutely not moving anywhere.) If there's a red light that takes a pretty long time to turn green which is usually the lights on the very busy roads that turn into freeways if you drive far enough- shutting your "Impala" off works also. If your stuck and not moving on the freeway you can shut your "Impala" off on the freeway when nothings moving but still it's a freeway so always pay attention for cars moving if you shut your "Impala" off on the freeway always be ready to start your car and go cause you never know what's going to happen behind you. God bless everyone be safe drivers and man for real stupid of people to even attempt doing this NEVER drive after having too much Liquor to drink!!
I already posted something up. I also would like to know how I am supposed to, Service the "Stabilitrac", and fix the traction control. Is there anyone out there that would tell me like I want to say is there anyone that might have anything like any possibility's of the problem could possibly be for both the-(Service Stabilitrac Sensor), and (Traction Control sensor) Would anyone please share them with me by sending me an email to my email address which is: tylerjay090533@gmail.com please let me know. They both go off like crazy my father tells me he's holding off on fixing both of those things but me I love to fix cars and this is something new that i'd be learning for fixing cars I just don't want my Father holding off for too long to the point were something might happen to his car if servicing and fixing both things isn't done and functioning with no more issues. Another thing if anyone knows where exactly in the car both the "Stabilitrac" is and the "Traction Control" is. Also shoot me an email if anyone knows where both of those things are exactly located so I can look at it and see if anything is wrong with any wiring or whatever it is. Again my Email is: tylerjay090599@gmail.com For the 1st thing anything will help I need to understand these issues more and for the 2nd thing im pretty much wanting an answer EXACTLY where both of those are located so I can look at it and see if anything's up with the wiring or whatever it may be so the sooner I can get started with fixing those problems PLEASE that's the biggest thing I want some answers too. Thanks!!

Rock Auto has a speed sensor for a whooping $6.00. Ill have my on by Friday to see if it works.
Same problem with my '13 Impala Questions : - Is the grinding noise causing wear ? - Can this cause the engine to shut down ?
It is the way it is wired underneath car and to wheel. When you turn, espicially to the left, it kinks the cord and it shorts out eventually. You can buy a replacement cable at dealer or re wire it yourself. It has to be longer and out of the way when turning.
You can also just turn the traction control off until you can get it fixed.
Thank you. Turning the traction control off solves the problem. I'm curious as to the source of the crunching sound I heard for months until I found this temporary solution. It sounded like metal to metal grinding. Is it likely that this caused wear requiring parts replacement? I'm sure the dealer will be happy to tell me if so, but a heads-up would be nice :)
The problem is the wiring harness is bad we had the same problem and we changed the CV Axle no luck changed the hub no luck so it was the wiring harness on my 2013 impala
A few people said to turn off the traction control but that does not help at all. It comes right back on when the wires disconnect and reconnect. I had the wiring harness replaced as well (at least that’s what they said they did) but it only lasted a little while
I brought my car to the dealer when the ABS warning light lit up. They found and replaced corroded wiring in the left wheel WSS harness. (300$) I must say though that the noise I was concerned about was not a rapide “rat-tat-tat…” characteristic of ABS. It was more llike a crunch I hope that this repair solves the problem. I'll update this when i have more information about the longterm results of this repair
You would think with some many having the same issue ranging in years Chevy would call a recall. My ABS has stopped working and if I hot the brakes to hard the lock or of I have to sit at a light too long they lock. I have never turned my trac control on but whatever is going on with the traction control system stabitrak, and brake assist it is starting to affect how safely my car runs I have a 2011.
It's been a while now after the repair (changing a corroded wire in the WSS harness), and the problem seems to be solved.

Have same issue.....grinding when turning left. Now all lights on - Service Stabilitrak, Service brake assist, traction control lit, ABS light on!!! And car slows itself down! Ergghh....just spent $1,000 to fix problem- replaced all brakes/rotars, both front bearings and a caliper in the back. Before it was just the grinding noise, Now....everything lit up and LOUD grinding. Not fixed at all!!!! Taking it in and having the left front ABS wiring harness checked. Hopefully that is it!! If not, this care is going bye-bye!! 2013 Chevy Impala LTZ. Purchased in June!
The same noise with my Impala. Replacing a corroded wire in the left ABS harness fixed it. Service manager at dealer had not heard of this problem before, but the mechanic who drove the car in the service bay immediately diagnozed the problem.
smokyjoedakota answered 6 years ago
Update - Took the car back into shop and TOLD the mechanic to check the left front ABS Wiring Harness before he checks anything else on the car. Guess What? - Wiring harness was bad/worn from rubbing, causing it to short, and thus the reason for the grinding noise and service notifications on the dash. It was happening intermittent. Mechanic had someone sit in drivers seat, and someone move the wiring around....BINGO! Dash lit up like Christmas! 2013 Chevy Impala LTZ with 96,000 miles. From this thread I would have to agree....CHEVY NEEDS TO RECALL! Fix was $220 total: $70 part, $150 labor. Wish I had read this thread sooner! Thanks, and good luck everyone!
I have the same thing going on with my 2007 Blazer SS, all these mechanics are like deer in the head lights !! Crunching going on and it says service traction control.
Christopher answered 6 years ago
The wire used in the abs sensor is to weak and to thin for being outside the body of the car IMO. The replacement part wire is a much better gauge and thicker. That being said the problem with the grinding, the wacky stabilizing alerts coming on etc is often because of a break in the wire harness going to the wheel sensor; usually on the drivers side of the car, near where the wire goes into the wheel speed sensor. To test for this, simply put your hand behind the wheel and wiggle the wire harness and see if it trips the alert to come on. I found that my harness had a broken blue wire about 6 inches away from the wheel. As the years went by and all that turning and wire movement, the copper wire broke down and frayed and got worse and worse.
hello. i believe that i have fixed, not cured, the ABS-STABILITRAK- TRACTION CONTROL problem on my 2013 impala ltz. as i have read in so many reports, the left front wiring harness is the problem. i noticed that the wiring is stretched and secured too tightly to the lower a-frame assembly. i simply removed the grommets from their pushed-in locations on the assembly and let the wiring "float" as the wheels turn, especially to the left, and the assembly moves up and down according to the lay of the road. no problems now for six days.
ITS THE WIRE !!!!! Quit with all the bearings !!! the oem bearings your removing are far better than the cheap china ones your replacing them with.
I am having similar problem,my impala is older 05 I believe. It seems to happen in cold and/or wet weather. The tracton control light will come on says service traction control but it also says reduced engine power, and the car will slow down wont go over about 40 mph. I saw some videos where the problem was the throttle body or the sensor on the throttle body. Everyone that posted about it said dealership could not find the problem when they take it in. Is this the same issue as a lot these guys here, or do you think it just need throttle body and throttlebody sensor changed?
2012 Impala having issues when starting. I turn the key everything lights up normal but won't start. Try it 7-10 times and it will start. Replaced starter, ignition, anti-theft module.
I am having the same issue......2010 Impala. The service stabilitrack light keeps coming and starts beeping like crazy. It is grinding when you turn as well. Yesterday it started making a knocking noise and now its shaking when you drive it. I took to O'Reilly's and no codes showed up. I am going to get someone to check the wiring.

I just bought my 2013 Impala & it's doing all of this and then some. I have to ty Ave it to the dealer to look at. They were guessing it was something rattling in my exhaust. I thought it sounded & felt like my tranny was slipping in 1st gear. I'm going to let the dealer know about this common problem with the impala's. Thank you guys
REDragon2016 answered 6 years ago
Check these complaints out.. Apparently this is a common Impala problem h seems more and more like a mechanical defect that should prompt a recall before people start going after GM for this dangerous mechanical defect! https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/20 13/CHEVROLET/IMPALA

I had a similar problem with my 2013 Implala. Brought it to the dealer and it turned out that a wiring harness having to do with the ABS system somewhere around the wheel was rubbing or damaged. So they replaced BOTH wiring harnesses, left and right, and it was fixed under warranty.
BrittKnee706 answered 5 years ago
I have a 2013 Impala that is having the same issue. When turning slowly traction control comes on & it sounds like grinding. Sometimes if I hit a bump in the road it'll throw codes. The usual codes are Stabilitrak, Traction Control, and Brake Assist. We have replaced both front wheel bearings that came with wheel speed sensors in them. We went as far as flushing the brake fluid in case there was any water in it which would also throw a code. We checked the wiring harness and followed the wires and nothing seems pinched or burned or worn. The only thing I can think of is it being the abs module which won't be cheap to fix. If anyone has any suggestions please send them my way. This has been a pain the last few months.
BrittKnee706 answered 5 years ago
We also loosened the wires to see if they were fastened to tightly & pulling out on turns (passenger side seems tighter than driver side) but it still does the same thing. Any other suggestions would be awesome. After replacing the front wheel bearings we even had the codes reset to update the system of the changes in case it wasn't "aware" and continuing to cause traction control to come on. Nothing changed.
crystalearnhardtfan answered 5 years ago
I have a 2011 and have this issue too. I had the passenger side wheel bearing replaced but it kept triggering when making slow left turns into parking lots. I dealt with it for a while. Turning the car off and then back on sometimes cleared the Service Traction Control error...sometimes not. Sometimes it would clear itself while I was driving. I just dealt with it...until it started triggering when I was driving straight. When it started triggering while I drove on the highway, cutting my engine speed and disabling my ability to use control while intermittently braking for me, I decided to try again to get it fixed. Turns out the wiring harness to the passenger wheel had bare exposed wires that were touching the frame and shorting sometimes, which caused the StabiliTrak errors to trip. The mechanic taped it with electrical tape and that worked for a while. I should replace the wiring harness but I am waiting for Chevy to recall it. It's BS that it is recalled on some Malibu models but not the Impalas. So I deal with it. I have turned the Traction Control off so I don't get the messages and my tires spin in the rain and snow when accelerating from stop lights. Today, it's cold and the roads are wet and it tripped on the interstate with the Traction Control turned off. Engine Power Reduced, Service Traction Control, Service StabiliTrak - it cut my engine power and cruise control. I couldn't drive the car over 55 and had no ability to use cruise control. When I got to my destination, I turned the car off and back on. Engine light is still on but the error messages are gone. This should absolutely be recalled by Chevy as a safety issue. I reported it to GM about two years ago and requested a recall but they did nothing. If this issue causes me to have an accident, GM will be sued. If I survive the accident, I can promise you I will sue them and use all these complaints on here as evidence that they are ignoring these issues. I will be calling GM again this week to report what is happening to my car now. I cannot wait to get rid of this Impala and I have hesitation to buy another Chevy.
there is a wire harness on the front driver side of the car. gm engineered it bad so the caliper bends the wire until it eventual breaks causing your problem. jack the car up, remove the tire and pull back the harness on the back of the hub. splice the wire and put back together
mistercrisp answered 5 years ago
Karl: Many thanks for this! It is interesting that the first repair, which included both left and right harnesses, was several years ago, and was done under warranty. Funny that they didn't route the harness correctly when they replaced it. Thanks for your help!
My 2012 had the service Stabilitrak, brake assist, and traction control messages WITHOUT the ABS light upon starting the vehicle. The message may or may not go away when driving. I purchased a mid-grade scan tool that would accommodate both ABS and SRS (air-bag) diagnostics. The tool indicated low brake fluid, despite the fluid level being nearly full. The sensor for brake fluid level was faulty. Simple test: Unplug the sensor under the Master Cylinder reservoir. Start the car and see if the messages are gone. If they are gone, you need a $20 sensor that can be replaced in 5 minutes. Hope this saves somebody some time and money.
First, this does Not mean anything about your wheel bearing! Second, I'm not 100% sure about the Actual cause of this problem other than it IS an Electrical problem. I've seen and heard Many different possiblities, but so far a bad speed sensor is the best possiblity so far besides a big electrical problem like the rear defroster harness problem. Once again GM thought buying parts from Asia was a good idea until us customers have to deal with the Bad parts from overseas! There Is a class action suit against GM for this problem now! Check it out and file to join it! I'm still trying to find the Real problem! Lol

Answer: We fixed this issue on my 2013 impala by replacing the wiring harness on the passenger side. It was about $30 on amazon. My husband didn’t see any type of noticeable damage to any of the wires so we are assuming it has something to do with the connection in the plug. He replaced it a few weeks ago and haven’t had a single problem since. I sure hope this helps others. Especially because this is the cheapest route too.
Yes I believe #80 Christopher nailed it...when I turn hard left in my 2014 LTZ w/35000 mi the drivers side wheel grabs..never on the pass. side..GM mechanic said "broken wire" $200 so I will replace it myself.I live in snow country..I guess we all did this winter..broken wire should be under warranty but isn't..very big potential for an accident when pulling out and turning left, the car surges until you straighten it out...maybe GMs cars made in China will be better built
This problem is normally caused by a bad wheel speed sensor. Often there is a break in the wire, or on some models/years the pin inside by the wheel bearing shorts. People usually think it's a bad wheel bearing, but obviously that would be a totally different set of symptoms. They come by that idea because when you replace the wheel bearing the speed sensor comes with it. The best thing to do in my Opinion is to do a continuity test on the sensor and wire. This way you're not spending time and money unnecessarily.
My car is so bad that it shut itself off completely. I coated to the side of the road. Luckily l want going at a high rate of speed or a law suit would have been filled if l had survived. RIDICULOUS! DO THE RECALL AND FIX YOUR ERROR GM!!! My car bucks like a bronco and shirts words about stability, traction control and brake assist. Bright it to my mechanic and he was astonished as to what could cause the issue. Need to know how more about how to find this class action law suit.
Mine does same thing shows no faults when they scan it
2012 Impala I have changed the sensors, changed the wheel bearings and just changed the struts, no luck. The frightening part is, when I turn left or right from a stop, the car not only makes that funky noise, it also hesitates when trying to accelerate...all while my yellow lights are blinking on my dash. I wish GM would just chime in and tell us how to fix the issue instead of making it so damn complicated.
BrittKnee706 answered 5 years ago
Everyone, try replacing the wiring harness going to the hub assembly. Try one side and if it doesn’t work then do the other as well. This fixed my issue & the wiring harness is a cheap part. Please post what has worked for you.
Michellers1974 answered 5 years ago
Its the sensor... I had the same problem
It's probably water dripping down to sensor from the wire cover unplug and dry out with hair dryer the plug where wires inter the plug then put a little silicone on to keep water out. My sensor was on for 14kmiles after I paid to replace hub didn't work . I finally decided to replace wire, then saw split insolation covering wire and water inside. That's when I dried an silicone and no more problem.
I’m having the same issue with my 2014 impala LT. The stabilitrak worming comes in the dash and goes away. Eventually when trying to turn or park my steering has hesitation when turning left or right. I’m not sure what to do since the warning goes away on the dash.
2012 Impala 108,000 miles Code was for left wheel speed sensor. Mechanic replaced left hub assembly now get warning more or less constantly. I'm assuming it's a harness issue but I'm slightly paranoid about it being a transmission issue. I'm not having any issues with the transmission just wondering if this could indicate transmission problems.
I’m having the same issue with my 2015 impala.
I am having same problem with My 2013 LTZ.. mechanic says transmission computer is not talking to engine computer an that Vacuum pump may also be contribute to Service staiblitrac and ABS , traction control lights on, it is intermittent and is in "LIMP" mode now ( have to use a lot of accelarator to get it going, sounds like i'm slipping a clutch and then will only do 50MPH) and mechanic cant get any codes to come up either,
BEFORE YOU CUT YOUR WHEEL SENSORS WIRING APART READ THIS PLEASE!!! I know this is an old thread but i just bought a 2012 impala ltz Monday February 10th 2020 with only 96k for miles. First thing i noticed was the stabilatrack dinging and flashing and thought wheel sensor.. NOPE it was my hot wire going from the battery to my alternator grounding out on the front motor mount. I think that when my alternator would kick on to charge the battery it would start dinging. Then it would randomly stop for a while. I found this out because i had a small surge with my lights almost looking like they was flashing so i had the alternator testest. And as i was changing it seen the hot wire burnt through at the motor mount. After taping the wire up and moving it and replacing the alternator the stability issue is gone.. Ill try to post a video in the next couple days. Hope this helps

Hi I'm Richard and I been working on Impalas for a long time check the red wire the leads from the battery to the starter and make sure it's tight they can come lose and make u think u need all them parts and it's just a simple bolt.u can email me for further details at richardsemail2005.rs@gmail.com have a blessed and wonderful day
My 2012 Impala with 87k miles has thrown all those codes twice. The first time I needed new tires, the second time I needed those tires rotated. Codes gone. Anytime every single component of a system all code simultaneously and there hasn't been any performance problems, you can pretty much say, ok that ain't it. Dont panic, check your tires first. And here in hot hot Arizona, summer tire pressure isn't the same as winter pressure. And then again there are those times when the codes are right. I also recently broke a motor mount so it was within the realm that it could have broken or pulled loose the abs harness but I was blessed. It was the tires again. Whew!
My 2012 chevy impala Ltz abs light brake assist lights all came on after I had wheel alignment new tires put on wheel bearing hub assembly and brakes done. I'm frustrated cause lights didn't come on until after my wheel alignment
This is very common on the 2006 - 2015 (Limited) Impalas. I had both my 2012 and my 2015 Limited LT fail the same way. The ABS sensor wiring harness on both front wheels will develop an internal breakage on the copper wires. You can't see anything from the outside, but the wires are internally broken. When you turn the wheel hard either way, your ABS/Traction Control Light will turn on, and you will feel the stuttering/vibration of the AntiLock Brakes. You might get a Stabilitrack or ABS message as well. It will only get worse with time, and it's a minor fix. Just replace the wire harness from the connector end at the wheel hub, but you have to splice the other end to the existing wires. Amazon has a seller with 2 harness ends for $17 if you search for Dorman 970-040.
Its the traction contol sensot on the left wheel costs about 50 bucks that simple
How did you fix the 50 bucks sensor? By yourself?
It's not the actual sensor, it's the wiring harness that connects to the wheel speed sensor. You don't have to open up your strut/hub assembly or get into any bearings. Only a wiring issue. The shock/strut housing has a 2 pin connector jack on it, remove the plug and trace the wires back into your engine compartment. You have to cut the wires there, under the hood, front corner(s). Splice the new harness in place and route it back over the A-arm and back into the jack. Everyone who keeps saying it makes a "grinding noise" is wrong. They are feeling the pulsation of the ABS system because it loses contact (inside the broken wires) and applies traction control because the system thinks your wheels are slipping on ice. Same exact feeling as when you try to brake too hard on ice or mud and the traction control pulses the brake. It's not a mechanical grinding- if that were the problem it would never just get better or go away.

I am having the exact same problems with my 2012 Impala. Same lights/codes come on, then says going into low power mode and stalls. What is going on with this??? I’ve replaced several sensors, a wheel bearing, other things. It works for awhile then back to the problem. What’s going on with this????
Around $20 to $30 in parts, plus your labor. See my previous post: "Amazon has a seller with 2 harness ends for $17 if you search for Dorman 970-040."
I’m now having the same problem with my 2008 Chevrolet Impala SS with the V8 my car has recently had brand new front wheel bearing put on new brake pads, routers, new tires with an alignment. I just took a left hand turn and all these same codes and lights are popping up on my dash and clueless to what it means

Well everybody, I was on here once before and posted being clueless. But now, I might have the answer. I was having all these same problems. Turns out it was the fuel pump for me. Haven’t had any issues since.
My 2014 Chevy impala ltz does the exact same thing. I constantly turn traction control off. When I do that it doesn't. Iv not had it checked out yet.

I am beginning to hate my 2014 chevy impala. Too many electronic gadgets go bad. One day my newly permitted grandson was driving and says to me 'grandma, why is the car all of a sudden hard to steer?' I looked over and the dashboard was lit up like a christmas tree. Had him pull into a parking lot to check things out. ABS, power steering, and stabilitrak light all on. So I figured I will check out the power steering fluid. Could not find the dip stick. So got on the phone and done a search. Found out it is a electronic module! Done another search and called my mechanic brother who said it wouldn't hurt to drive it. So I took over driving. Got home and searched the internet. It was a stupid little magnetic field on the back of the hub assembly! Bearing felt fine, just a bit of the exposed magnetic field missing causing it to light up everything. Changed the bearing at a cost of $149 from Autozone. Good to go for about 1 year. Happened again. Other side this time! Now I had to hit the brakes one morning to avoid hitting a deer and about 5 minute laters my ABS and Stablitrak light comes on. Not the power steering though. So now wondering if it is a damn front bearing! Also had brakes and rotors changed about 2 years ago because I was hearing a grinding noise when braking. Still have the noise. Sounds like a heavy duty rusted out spring being stretched. More like a groan. About sick of this car and all of the stupid details to keep lights off.

my check engine light was saying lost communication with transmission control module
Guru9B1GHW answered 3 years ago
My Impala just started the lights and service stabilitrak (no grinding and runs fine otherwise) It will shut off the engine while driving after about 30 minutes, which is super scary.

TEMP FIX (No More Grinding): So you don't have to keep pushing the off button to turn the traction control off (2013 Impala), just remove the brake fluid sensor from the brake fluid bowl with wires attached and clip or tape a magnet onto the end of it, and leave it lay in a safe place in the engine compartment. This turns off the ABS and Traction Control systems because the computer thinks the car is low on brake fluid. No more grinding!
I also have a 2012 Chevy Impala a couple of weeks ago it started making a humming noise when I would accelerate which turn into a squeaky sound when I would turn the wheel left now today that light came on that said service traction stability
