Why does my car die when placed in reverse??

Hi. My 2011 vw Jetta dies immidiatly when placed in
reverse.. It started about 2 weeks ago when my battery
exploded out of no where! I replaced the battery and its
running just fine other than the lack of reverse. The check
engine light, ABS , tire pressure and and few other lights
stay on as well. Its throwing an abs code as well. Can
anybody please help me get this thing back on track???

I'd start by looking over the electrical, if the battery exploded the acid inside may have created a short

Hello friend, managed to solve the problem? I have my car a vw Jetta variant 2012 2.5 with the same problem, when you engage the revese the engine goes out, I have checked the entire electrical system and do not find the defect. Forward is all normal

I have the same car and it has started doing the same thing (same warning lights as well), but my battery didn't explode. Did you resolve the issue?
