2004 Ford escape over drive

My 2004 Ford escape XLT will not go into
overdrive. Automatically nor manually. It has
the push button on the shifter, which is up
on the column but it does nothing. Is there a
fuse or a relay or any other fix I can do?

Will it keep it from running if it goes out ?
