Gear letters on my dashboard disappear and service light comes on

I was driving my 2012 vw passat on the freeway
and the letter D dissapeared from my dash board
and the service light just came on,  also the rmp
went down and i barely can pass 60 mph

I hope you've resolved your problem. if you have a chance to reply...would you recommend buying this car? I'm looking at a 2012 with 115,000 mi.
