2005 Dodge 4.7 V8 misfire
Asked by jfrye313 Jun 15, 2017 at 08:57 PM about the 2005 Dodge Dakota SLT Quad Cab 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I've replaced all coil packs and spark plugs but I still can't
get my 7th cylinder to fire...the plug itself won't fire and
I've tried swapping everything every which away but still
nothing. If anyone could help me out in figuring this out it
would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!

IS IT GIVING OUT 1 OR MORE CODES?
It gave P0307 at 1st but after clearing it the light hasn't come on since but still running horrible and fuel on plugs when I remove them...you may be right about the grounding but I wanna say I've seen them run outside of engines before but maybe I was dreaming or something
I would try and pull another and see if it runs outside the engine but I don't wanna crank it with 2 misfiring so I figured it best not to do that

Does the #7 plug come out wet as well? What did the original #7 plug look like? Crusty, black and oily, or chalky white? There is the possibility that the original #7 missfire caused unburned fuel to wash the cylinder wall down enough that it will take several minutes to get the rings to reseal, if at all. Check the #7 compression and do a leakdown test if possible.
The original #7 plug and the new plug both come out black and oily so I'm going to give that a shot and hopefully it'll fix it...thank you very much for your time and knowledge. It is so greatly appreciated!!!

If you've got a good plug a good coil pack and it still missing on number 7 you need to do a compression test cuz it sounds like you got an internal issue on that cylinder
Thank you mufflerman900!!! I broke down and bought a new vehicle but still wanna fix my truck when I get a little more money saved back up
