If I install a 3 in body lift to a dodge Dakota do I have to get bigger tires?

No. Stock wheels and tires are fine... as a matter of fact better than bigger. But why do you want to lift it? You raise the center of gravity and lose stability. Badly. Chance of roll-over is far greater. And no it does not make it look better - and you gain no ground clearance - the undercarriage is not raised. But it's your Dakota, your choice. Just money spent for what?

You can also get what's called the death wobble when you lift a truck..

Instead of going bigger, you can always just go with a more aggressive tread tire. Either way, the fuel economy, ride quality, and safety are going to suffer.

sounds like you want a kit...go for it..then if you want ,down the road sometime you can go with larger tires...also.. if done right the 3 inch kit if do right will add a little valve to the truck...or at least off set its cost...

Hi Jacob, No. You do not need to get bigger tires if you put a 3" lift kit on. Although, you're truck will look funny - to other people. but who cares if that is what you want. It will raise your center of gravity and you will need to learn to drive a little more conservatively, especially going on and off the highway ramps. I put the 3 inch lift kit on my 98 Dakota, along with 31inch A/T tires, and I absolutely love it. It gives me a lot of extra clearance, and makes it easier to work under the truck. Mine looks great and feels great with the 3" lift kit. If you get the lift kit and increase the tire size, don't forget that the biggers tires will also increase the height. I love mine the way I have it set up and everyone tells me how great it looks. Don't forget the cap guards (or you'll have mud inside your engine compartment). :D)
