Question type: General

I'm looking at a 2008 Acura TL that has 121,000 miles on it and with good
maintenance. Can I drive another 50k and should I buy.

The Acura can easily go another 50k miles *IF* it was reasonably well maintained with regular oil changes and other maintenance as required. As to whether you should buy it, that is difficult to say. Price, mechanical, exterior and interior condition all play into the equation.

Have a mechanic check it out before buying.

I have a 2003 Acura 3.2TL which I bought in Mar 2002. I just hit 200,000 miles. Never had any major problems. I do the regular maintenance very religiously. So if you take care of it it will more than last 50,000. Good luck.

The 2008’s go to 250k, but they need be kept up. Acura’s are notorious for transmission issues. The 1999-2003’s were terrible and I’m shocked the person above had “no major issue.” Thats 1 out of 1000 with a 2003 TL. I had one. Still my favorite car ever!! At 220k they had to pry it from my cold dead hands. The 2008 on the other hand is a much better car. It’s 3rd Gen and 2007 and 2008 particularly are some good years for the car. These cars need special care. Its not like a Toyota Camry or Corolla that goes to 300k with just oil changes. You need to be very leery of their transmissions. And use special oils and fluids etc. Avoid 2006 and before. 2008 Lexus ES350 with high miles would be a better car for sure. However, that 2008 TL is a drivers dream. It’s awesome. Powerful and nimble. They stop on a dime.

I love my 2008 Acura TL. It has around 113,000 miles on it. I bought it in late 2008. I still have it serviced at the dealer (I bought the lifetime oil change at the time I purchased it for $300 and they deduct the amount from any service I have also). It is very well maintained. I had to replace an engine mount after a bad winter. I have had the timing belt changed once so far and I had them change the oil seals at the same time (just for fun). There is a 2008 Type S for sale right now in MA for $20,000 -- it only has 26,000 miles on it. But, you know, the problem will be if we end up having problems getting parts. I plan to keep it until I don't have another choice (until death do us part).
