mini cooper fan does not shut off

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Tonight my mini cooper radiator fan did not stop when I shut off the motor after. about a one and a half hours.  After an hour I checked and it is still running.  Suspect thermostat, as that was the cause a few years ago.  It's Saturday night - if it runs on until Monday when I can go to the dealer I fear the battery will be dead.  How can I manually stop it?

Thank you for taking the time to respond. The fan did stop itself after about 2 hours. I have yet to drive the car again so don't know if the problem will return. I still suspect the thermostat. Thanks again.
