Is 2012 S car covered in recall/lawsuit

Asked by GuruBP9BS Jan 13, 2019 at 11:20 AM about the 2012 MINI Cooper S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is my 2012 clubman S covered in the timing chain recall/lawsuit ? It is currently in the process of eating itself to DEATH and the Greenville Mini Dealer wants $2500 to fix it. This is the same motor as a 2011 and not supposed to have these troubles !

There is in fact a class action lawsuit against BMW for the timing chain tension failure on car with over 30K miles. The courts have awarded over 30 million dollars for damages. Google the title you posted and get registered for a claim. I would not do any repairs until talking with the attorneys. You may even get a loaner vehicle while they do this $2500 repair. If the timing chain fails entirely, it will destroy the engine too.

I also wonder if your original powertrain (engine) warranty should cover this. Sometimes a dealer will trick you into to paying for a covered repair, while also filing a warranty claim in order to get paid twice. Many ordinary people get greedy when there's money on the table. Be cautious.
