My ford explorer won't start - why?

Asked by Punk1721 Nov 06, 2015 at 06:42 PM about the 2004 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V8 4WD

Question type: General

I put my SUV in reverse, then into drive.  It quit and wouldn't start again.  It has a new battery, new winter tires, new filter, recent oil change and lots of gas.  A mechanic who was driving by checked it and has no idea what it could be.  Please help!

Just a wild guess but perhaps the neutral safety switch on the transmission is out of adjustment. I say this because you went from reverse to drive which might have knocked the safety switch out of its proper position.
