Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It all started with the fan staying on permanently on high.  That lasted for a couple of
days then suddenly no blowing air at all.  We could change temperature and the mode
it was it just the fan level was stuck.  I went through checked all the fuses and they
are all good.  I then took out the climate control unit and found melted wires on the
harness behind the fan level knob.  Any Ideas as what is going on?  I know the wires
need to be replaced but does the whole unit need to be replaced now?  Any advise is
welcome.
