2012 NISSAN VERSA HATCHBACK CLUTCH PACK FIX

Asked by DMillz1950 Mar 13, 2021 at 07:38 AM about the 2012 Nissan Versa 1.8 SL Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was told by the dealer yesterday that the clutch pack on my 2012 Nissan
Versa Hatchback, needs to be replaced. It is an automatic. They said it is NOT
a CVT tranny. This vehicle supposedly has only 112K on it. I've only had it 5
months since October 2020. This is the straw that broke the camel's back.
Anyone have any suggestions as to what the cost to fix should be???

replacing a clutch pack involves removing the transaxle and tearing it apart. Your basically rebuilding the trans. Expect to pay $2 to 3K at a trans shop, more if you have the dealer do it. The past owners probably never changed the transmission fluid. You can also have a trans mechanic verify what the dealer said, But I don't know what your symptoms are, so maybe you just need a fluid change?

I was parked and idling day before yesterday. I had driven the car for approx. 12 minutes. I turned the A/C on and it immediately started stinking (scorching smell) and smoking badly. I had my interview, drove out to the dealer in heavy traffic for about 20 mins. I could still smell the burning, but not see the smoke. When I got there, the mechanic looked at it, took it for a test drive and came back, told me it was not a CVT transmission BUT the clutch pack was going or gone. About a month ago I drove to the doctor's. Up the highway for about 15-20 mins. When we got there, it was cold so we were idling with the heater on. It started doing approx. the same thing. Took it into the dealer; they said it was an exhaust leak under the manifold. It was supposed to go into another mechanic this week and have that issue fixed. In my opinion, it's NOT the clutch pack, but still the exhaust leak but I have no idea. Maybe both. I'm in the process of talking with the owner of the company. Only had this thing 5 months yesterday and there's a whole mess of issues (the A/C, the max air flow valve 3 times, but they hadn't cleaned the gunk out behind the valve), now this supposed tranny issue. Of course the 3 month warranty is up and now there's a 50/50 powertrain thing on it. Ugh. Ugh. Ush.

There is no clunk in the transmission. No slippy shifting. Nothing to me or my daughter which would indicate transmission issues, but maybe the air system.
