My 2012 Nissan Versa Hatchback suddenly would not start

Asked by Eric Sep 06, 2024 at 03:39 PM about the 2012 Nissan Versa 1.8 S Hatchback

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The motor cranks over fine. I sprayed starting fluid into the air intake and it will
try to start. I changed the fuel pump assembly and I can hear it working. I am
not sure what is wrong with it. I think it is not getting fuel. I suspect the fuel line
is plugged, but it was running well up until I turned it off.

check for injector pulse , check for spark , Without those 2 it could be a crank sensor , check for proper fuel pressure some vehicles are particular just having some won't do . Your experience may differ

You should always change the fuel filter and fuel pump relay when you change the fuel pump. You may want to run a compression check just to eliminate base timing problems.

Since it's trying to run on the starting fluid we can assume you have spark. Do a compression test. If all cylinders test very low or zero something is going on with the valve timing. Your Versa has Variable Valve Timing (VVT) so something could be wonky with the valve timing like a bad VVT solenoid. The other possibility is a broken timing belt. Which is a cause for low or no compression on all cylinders. Jim
