Cause of gasoline smell in car when starting

WHEN START ENGINE IN COLD WEATHER I GET THE SMELL OF GAS IN
THE CAR. IT GOES AWAY AS THE ENGINE WARMS UP. THE COLDER THE
WEATHER THE STRONGER THE SMELL. COULD THIS BE A CRACKED
EXCHAUST MANIFOLD. NISSAN SAYS IT IS AND WANT $3000.00 TO
REPLACE IT.
