Oil Light On - Oil Full

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Can anyone tell me why my oil light is on, but the oil is full. I noticed it was on yesterday, I immediately pulled in and had the oil changed but the light remained on. The guy at the shop said it was an oil pressure sensor that probably out. OK to drive until it gets replaced. What purpose does the oil pressure sensor serve?

It might be the sensor but it might also indicate that the pressure in the oli system is too low and a fault with your oil pump. I wouldn't drive till you get the sensor checked or replaced.

the pressure sensor lets you know when the oil pressure is low so you don't damage the engine. the sensor is only a few bucks for a new one at auto zone. how many miles on this car? if its excessive I would have the oil pressure checked for worn oil pump.
