Next time the light comes on, I would take it to a mechanic that you trust. Let them diagnose. I suspect it could be a warning that the hub assemblies or the wheel bearings might be going bad. My older 4x4 used to do that just before the hubs would go bad. When the hubs were bad to a point that needed changing, the abs and traction lights would also come on and stay on. Good luck

This is a problem that is proprietary to the vehicle and manufacturer. A dealership needs to reprogram or re-flash your TCU. A lot of Jeeps were recalled for this issue. It's a software malfunction in their program. A dealership is the only one that has the software program to correct this problem. Until you get this corrected you will not be able to engage low range. Do not delay this correction. The transmission can downshift to a low gear while at speed on the freeway producing disastrous results for your transmission and your safety.
