Does a two wheel drive Dodge Durango have a transfer case?

Asked by Bill Nov 22, 2015 at 04:11 PM about the 2004 Dodge Durango SLT RWD

Question type: General

My 2004 Dodge Durango has 2 wheel drive. Today I hit a small bump and lost power. The motor works fine, but the transmission does not engage in any gear. There is a whirring sound and it acts like it dropped the drive shaft. I did find a thread that had a similar issue, but the blame was layed on the transfer case for the four wheel drive. Is this a simple change of the filter and fluids or am I looking at a complete rebuild? Any help would be appreciated.

No transfer case, only 4x4's have a transfer case. Is the trans fluid level really low?

No. That's just it this came out of nowhere. Even the color of the fluid is good (based on the dipstick). I read that changing the fluid and filters may fix the problem, but why the sudden onset?
