I think you have cheap brake pads on the truck and or rotor may be a little warped...
You had better take it apart and see what is going on! Did you install the brake pads with the metal side towards the rotor?
I did not install the brakes and rotors however I have change brakes and rotors roughly 75 to 100 times in my life that is not the problem. I had the dealership replace the brakes and rotors front and rear before I purchased as part of the sale agreement. I have checked both front rotors with a micrometer no warps nothing out of the ordinary with the pads. This only happens On sudden stopping such as times when the ABS would kick in and when I'm hauling the trailer with weight sudden stops normal driving no brake issues at all no noise smooth and anytime I'm applying the brake pedal it is a smooth no shimmer or shake. Thanks
What you are hearing is probably the ABS activating and if so it is normal. Do you have trailer brakes? The extra weight of the trailer will put a big strain on the trucks braking system and may be causing the ABS to kick in.
Thank you. My previous newest vehicle was an 05 ram 1500 it would do the normal feel it in the pedal when abs kicked in. This truck now is a 2012 I've never owned a vehicle that new so this issue is new to me with the noise it makes when the ABS engages. Thank you again
Just out of curiosity I was wondering how heavy your trailer is and if it has trailer brakes. I tow a lot and would not have a trailer without brakes.
Actually during this process I have figured out that my trailer brakes are not working correctly that is another issue that I'm having to address
Did you ever figure out for sure if it was an ABS issue? My 2004 Ram is doing the same exact thing. Fairly new pads and rotors. I can get it to sometimes make a little noise on sudden/hard stopping. With my 3,000 lb trailer behind me, it really gets loud during stopping, but not all the time. It seems to be on the driver's side front wheel. Not only do I hear it when it happens, I can feel it in my foot as well. My trailer brakes do seem to keep it from happening, but I don't think it should happen at all. I could be wrong. Thanks
My 2013 1500 is doing this exact same thing. It is not an ABS issue. Iv had my truck for 4 years and the ABS has kicked in several times and never has it been a metal on metal Screeching sound. It only does it when i need to stop very suddenly or if I'm pulling a trailer. Any ideas what this could be? Mine also seems to be coming from the left front.
I keep seeing this question regarding brakes grinding when stopping hard. I changed my front pads and rotors a couple months ago and it has been fine until now. Now when I stop hard I get a grinding sound in my front right tire...I see this question asked, but never any solutions.....anybody that has resolved this please let me know.
2012 ram have you guys upgraded to slotted rotors ? i did now seem to be hearing that but havent check yet
