Let me look in my crystal ball- hmmmm- it's coming clearer, clearer- yes, there it is- if you do all the service and maintenance you will drive for a few years with no problems- maybe

Take care of the car as long as you do all the service that is needed and it should last you a few more years !

If you have the 2.7 you should use full synthetic and change oil every 3-4 thousand. Also change the pcv (cheap). Then with the engine the issue is "How long will the water pump last?" its a close to $1,000 job on an intrepid 2.7. Have the coolant flushed and replaced with the Zerex for these cars. Make sure they blead it properly. This might make it last for a while If you have it replaced ues the updated factory Mopar pump. They make one available for the old chain style. Dont put on a cheap pump

Do NOT flush the transmission. Only have drain (filter change) and refill done with licensed ATF+4 fluid (nothing else).

Bottom line: Intrepids can be expensive to maintain unless you are very mechanical yourself. Especially, the timing chain driven water pump on the 2.7 and the hard to service thermostat. The alternator is hard to get to too.

Have a 2000 3.2 with 155,000 miles. Stil runs great! However, it's only partly a Dodge anymore. Has had the water pump and timing belt replaced twice ($800 each time), radiator, shocks, struts, headlights, all replaced. Makes a great spare car and I still put a lot of miles going back and forth to work on it.
