I have a 2004 dodge stratus with a 2.7l engine that I am trying to replace can I use a 2.4l engine like the one that came stock without having to change anything else like the transmission?

Asked by Lynsi May 15, 2014 at 02:16 AM about the 2004 Dodge Stratus SXT Coupe FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought the car used and it has a cracked head among other problems with the engine
and I'm trying to find a replacement. Well I noticed that it came with a 2.4 l and now has a
2.7l engine in it. And since I am unable to find a 2.7l close to me at a price I can manage
I was wanting to know if I could out a 2.4l back in it (found one close and reasonable) or
would I need to switch out the transmission  too? I don't know much about this stuff so go
easy on me please!

You can get that information from the yard that has the engine your looking at. It should be a direct fit. No tranny change. But the ECU might be different.

The ECU is the computer that controls the engine and transmission, among other things. You need to be sure that it's compatible with the engine you plan to replace.

I am also looking to replace an engine. I have a 2004 Dodge Stratus 2,7L but want to know if I'll be able to put a 2005 Dodge Stratus 2.4L engine in the 2004 Stratus?
