my 88 dodge half ton (318) has a severe lack of power in reverse? have had trouble with the timing. best i can tell the timming is right on now

ran fine till end of winter then lost all power forward and reverse, now we got the timing set to what its supposed to be but reverse still cant back up a small hill any suggestions?

I'd suspect a fouled up EGR valve...clean it with brake cleaner and put it back...another thought was mis-adjusted brakes or loose star wheel adjusters unforgiving of position~

Auto tranny = 2nd gear forward and reverse geard to share clutch packs. Need tranny overhaul

Yep, transmission! If your having problems in all forward and reverse gears might be engine issue but if even 1 gear works good (has power) like if u manually put it in low and it's ok then it has to be the trans!
