Transmission or something else?

Asked by Beck60 Nov 13, 2014 at 06:40 PM about the 2004 Dodge Stratus R/T Sedan FWD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

When first starting my car and
putting it in drive I need to rev my
engine to like 5 or 6 RPM then it will
go into gear and kick forward. After
driving for a few minutes I have to
repeat the process once or twice to
get it to get back in gear. After the
car warms up the problem seems to
go away. Even after I park for under
an hour the problem won't come
back until it sits overnight or after a
long span.  So I was wondering what
this could be and is there an
inexpensive way to fix it because I'm
a broke ass college kid.

Have you checked your transmission fluid level? Sounds like this could be the problem, also, check for leaks under the car. I wouldn't keep doing this racing the engine thing, just going to be more problems with transmission. Also, engine must be running when you check fluid level on tran dip stick. Bill
