Lean burn is an old Chrysler fuel economy/emissions strategy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lean-burn

The Dodge Ram trucks had the Second Generation "Lean Burn" emissions Controls. This consists mainly of a Dual-Pickup Distributor, a different ignition module, and a Holley 2280 or 6280 "Electronic Feedback" 2BBl Carburetor (Look for the wire coming out the bottom). there is also a smog Pump and 1 or 2 Charcoal Canisters. It can be easily converted to a Standard Electronic ignition System, a single pickup distributor for Chrysler LA 318/360 is easy to find (Same in car and truck). Most 1973 and Newer 318/360 V8 Chrysler Corp cars and trucks had the single pickup electronic distributor. the Holley 2280 will still run fine without the rest of the lean burn, but a Carter BBD 2bbl, or a 4bbl carb will run better than the 2bbl Holley. Just be sure to change the throttle linkage and the kickdown (Trans) linkage when you change the carburetor. If you change to a 4BBL, I recommend a Edelbrock AVS 4bbl, no more than 600 CFM on a stock motor, very easy to tune, even easier than the Carter AVS it's based on, and cheaper than the old Carter as well.
