2003 dodge caravan wont start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My dad owns this van and went through almost
everything to get it to start, the only way it would
start is if he jumped the starter in the fuse box and
held the key all the way( mostly 2 person job) he
replaced starter and other ignition components to
see if it worked but did not, the van stopped
shifting after a few weeks so now it wont come out
of second gear whem you drive, is this a computer
that needs to be replaced?

I think you have multiple issues. The ignition switch may be faulty and maybe the battery is bad. The transmission thing may be more serious. At this point you need to consider dumping the van for a newer car.

Changed the ignition switch ans we have tried another battery, and that was a thought but would rather wait for some comments on here

Could it be a wiring problem? When it runs all of the accessories cut out once the brake is applied, but other times they will work for quite some time tho, has a mind of its own..
Before you dump your van you may want to check for electrical and computer issues. The TIPM or fuse box basically your computer board can get corrosion and cause the van to do weird things and it will make things like your transmission seam bad or like you need a fuel pump or door looks and windows not working. Hard to start issues and throttle body repairs. I'm telling you the computer is crazy when it gets a short. I would definitely start there before you pay to have any mechanical work done to transmission or anything. Test all fuses and relays and trace wires for shorts and also load test anything working off relays. That's when you find the problem you can't just test power going to it.
