2003 Dodge Caravan will not idle freely forward. Feels as if something is impeding the wheels. What could it be?

Sounds like one of the calipers has seized up.

firebird338 may have a point there. Especially if you give it a little throttle and let go of steering wheel and it wants to drift one direction or the other. Otherwise, just make sure transmission fluid is up to level

The vehicle does want to pull ever so slightly to the left. Is there a fix for freeing up the caliper that can be done by a lay person? or is this an issue for a mechanic to solve?

If it is seized up there is nothing you can do but replace caliper and if you are or know someone that is little mechanical inclined

You could do it yourself but if you do not feel comfortable about doing it because its brakes leave it to the professional.

That depends entirely on your experience with automotive brakes. I have done perhaps a few dozen brake jobs on various cars, mostly Toyota and Ford, and personally I would not know what to do. But when you say 'ever so slightly', that leads me away form this even being the trouble. Ya know what Jambarndt , if it shifts well, no overheating, no severe pull with brake application, no warning lights, no other problems, I wouldn't even be concerned if it were mime. The car is 16 years old, and stuff happens. Again, check the fluid level and if it it good, and not brown or burnt odor, then relax. No worries. BUT if the fluid does look bad, and/or has a burnt odor, come back and we will see what we can figure out
