My 12 Camry has a problem

Asked by Simon Jun 16, 2020 at 11:08 PM about the 2012 Toyota Camry XLE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my 2012 Camry was just fine but recently upon driving on the road the
car shuts off when coming to full stop such as, traffic light, or stop sign. I
decided to take it to Toyota dealership since I usually take it to them for oil
change. The dealer called me today and said the car has over fuel gas for
some reason even I don't ever over fuel my car, the dealer is trying to charge
me $300 to flush 2 gallons of gas. In addition, they said this might fix the
problem 100% or they will charge me more money when they mentioned
something about fuel pump that I didn't understand. So I'm looking for any
recommendations or suggestions because honestly I don't wanna spend that
much of an amount on the car. Thank you all!

Never heard of overfueling a gas tank can cause a shutdown. Thousands of people overfuel their tanks everyday. The Fuel pump can be very weak and cause it Turn off while driving sometimes or when you go into a store and come back it won't start. Then like an hour later it starts. A clogged Fuel filter/Catalytic converter/dirty throttle body/air filter can cause hesitations or engine sputtering while driving and sometimes can shut down the car when slowing down or stopped.

Thank you all for advise. I picked up my car today, the dealer said keep the car running for some time might fix the issue, I drove it for like 8 miles it looks good now. I did ask the dealer if there's anything wrong with the fuel pump they said no. I did include a copy of the dealer detailing the issue, I'll try next time to use a different pump or not fill the car all the way up. Thank you all again!

They didn’t say that to me. The guy at the dealership said he will first charge me $300 to flush two gallons of gas from the tank. He said if this fixes the problem then we should be done with that, if not he would charge me more money to dry out the vapor canister. I asked him how much more would that be he said cannot tell at this time. The car is driving fine now with no problem, If I notice the car will do the same thing again I will take it to an independent repair shop. Thanks again!
