2003 Dodge Dakota 4WD Will not shift past 2nd gear in Drive

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello all! So my 03 Dodge Dakota will not shift into any gear besides 1st or
2nd. While in Drive it will rev up but not shift past 2nd. Gradually got worse
until it got to the point that Drive would not provide any speed once so ever.
Had to drive it in 2nd at 35 MPH to get it back home. It only started having
shifting problems a few days ago where it would down shift at odd times or
not at all when trying to get up to speed.
It has plenty of Transmission fluid. The engine light is on, however having
checked the code a few months ago this is just due to the gas cap not
sealing correctly. Only has 100k miles on it. The truck was rolled a year ago,
although I'm not sure if that would make a difference.

If there is any other information I can provide, please let me know. I
appreciate any and all helpful comments!

My Moms 1999 Chrysler would not shift up and to even go slow the engine would rev up high RPMS. The Chrysler Dealer knew what it was right over the phone. It is a plug and play part. However they just love to charge you computer check fees and labor. See if an auto parts store can hook up their machine for a free check. If they have a good one it may tell you what part your needing to purchase.
