The hoses and pump are ten years old. Top off the fluid and maybe the noise will stop.
It's all most likely due to the leak. Repair or replace leaky hose/fitting and refill the power steering reservoir, turn steering wheel all the way left and right a couple of times, recheck fluid level and it should be ok.
