my 03 durango will not drive in awd but will drive in 4x4 high or low why?

my 2003 dodge durango will not go in awd but when i switch it over into 4x4 hi or low it
will drive i belive its the transfer case but i'm not sure i've tried everything to get it to
drive in awd but nothing seems to be working i tryed to change the switch, i put in a
new drive shaft i checked all the fuses and made shore that rear end was good but still
won't drive in awd but will in 4x4 can anyone tell me if its the transfer case or if its
something else

Are you talking about it going in to automatic all wheel drive, where the system automatically detects slippage? Then applies power to slipping wheel? If you have 4X4, with a shifter, you don't have that. AWD means no driver input. 4X4 means you manually shift in to 4-wheel drive. What switch are you 'changing'?

Or am I getting this all wrong and you can't get it in to 4 wheel drive? Is the switch in this image? Can you describe it, or if you have image software draw an arrow to it? click to size up

My dodge daugo will not go when driving in and but will in 4high is that ok to do when going dwon high
