4 wheel lock not disengaging properly.

Asked by BigBaldy Oct 08, 2013 at 06:03 PM about the 2003 Dodge Durango SXT RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2003 Durango's 4 wheel lock engages fine, but won't disengage right away.  If it's
moving and disengages, there's a God-awful thump, and it feels like I'm driving over a big
speed bump.  Anyone have any ideas about what's going on?  Thanks.

could be you need to take out the shift motor and clean it up and lubricate it, this can happen if you don´t use 4WD often. It is also best to take the foot of the gas both when engaging or disengaging to make things smother. Then your truck needs to be at a stand still when you put in or out of 4WD low and in neutral.
