Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2003 dodge durango 4.7,4x4. Will always take off slugishly as if in 3rd shift. This problem started 5wks ago. anytime i start shifting it manually from 1 it move out well then manually to 2 it moves well and manually to D it goes, to me the D looks like picking from 3 and i never know if it eventually gets to 4th shift. I realise that the trans starts shifting from 3rd gear on its own.about 6 days ago it shifted well on its own for two days and went back again to its 3rd taking off style. can somebody help pleaseeee.

Yes about when it started I realized I pour to much trans oil into the trans and this made it over guage up till now, secondly whenever I want to take off even in 1 the engine tends to shrug vibrate a bit before going. Thank for your response.

just realised i didnt say the engine cuts off anytime the truck is about to stand still after slowing down.or when am slowly making a turn. while idling the rps goes up and down atimes at 700 then back to 500 and anytime abit below 500 it cuts off.

How is the service history ? Sounds like many things need to be serviced. If you don´t do it your self take to dealer or a shop you trust and have it properly serviced.

Thanks for all your contributions. Ihave decided to get another trans, i believe the one that came with this truck is 464rfe 4 speed being 2003, i want to get a five speed auto trans that its belhousing fits into my truck(4.7, 4x4, 03 durango sxt) I believe 04 durango has a 5speed trans, does their bellhousing match please ? will it go in smothly into my 2003? secondly what is the spec name for 04 durango trans? is it 545rfe or what? Thanks for being there.
