What is wrong with my van and how do I fix it

It just started doing this today My
van was jumped off by a friend my
wife drove it too work then a friend
was going too jump her off at work
with jumper cables and both
batteries were smoking and the
jumper cables started melting the
battery on my van caught a small
flame then went out and neither cars
will start.

Sorry to give you the bad news but it really sounds like the cables were hooked up wrong. Positive to negative or negative to positive. Most likely burnt the alternator out on the vehicle that was trying to jump hers.
